Edward Norton is one of the most exciting and talented young generation of American actors. He already has two Oscar nominations – for a supporting role in the crime-drama “Primal Fear” and for the leading role in “American History X”. The first of these creations brought him also a Golden Globe nomination. He works perfectly in both comedies and dramas, which demonstrates his extreme versatile possibilitis. 

Childhood

Born August 18, 1969, in Boston, Massachusetts. His father, Edward Norton Sr., was a former federal prosecutor under the Carter administration and his mother, Robin, was an English teacher. Edward is the eldest of Norton’s three children. He has a sister named Molly and a brother – James. Edward’s grandfather, an architect James Rouse, designed South Seaport in New York, and is also known as the inventor of shopping malls. 

At the age of five Edward decided to become an actor after watching his guardian Betsy True perforim in “If I Were a Princess”. At the age of 8, he has worked in a school drama circle, then he was learning acting all the time at various courses in schools and at workshops. 

Studies

Norton studied astronomy and Japanese. In 1991 he graduated from Yale University with a degree in history. He began work at The Enterprise Foundation, which was founded by his grandfather. Edward worked at the branch in Osaka because he speaks fluent Japanese. After returning to New York, he started playing at off-Broadway theater, breaking through with his 1993 involvement in Edward Albee’s Fragments at the Signature Theatre Company.

Career

Around the time when he was appearing in Albee’s Fragments, in Hollywood, they were looking for a young actor to star opposite Richard Gere in a new courtroom thriller, “Primal Fear” (1996). The role was offered to Leonardo DiCaprio but he turned it down. Gere, tired of looking for the right person wanted to abandon the project but changed his mind when Norton appeared. Edward was chosen for the role from among 2,000 competitors. Edward won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in “Primal Fear” (1996).

Before the film was even released, his test screenings for the part were causing a Hollywood sensation, and he was soon offered roles in Woody Allen’s “Everyone Says I Love You” (1996) and “The People vs. Larry Flynt” (1996). Miloš Forman took into account his candidacy for the role of Andy Kaufman in “The Man on the Moon” (1999). Producers, however, chose Jim Carrey.

In 1997, he was rejected the role in Tom Hanks film Saving Private Ryan (1998). In 1998, he starred in the movie “American History X” which earned him another Oscar nomination, and in 1999 he became known for creation in the “Fight Club” by David Fincher, where he appeared alongside Helen Bohn – Carter and Brad Pitt. To prepare for the role, Norton took lessons in boxing, taekwondo, and grappling. Brad Pitt and Edward Norton became friends and Norton was invited to Pitt’s wedding with Jennifer Aniston. 

In 2000 he made his debut as a director and co-producer of the film “Keeping the Faith”. Story that became the basis for the screenplay was written by his friend from his student days, Stuart Blumberg. Edward appeared in the film in the as Father Brian. He dedicated the film to his late mother. 

In the following year he partnered with the true legends of cinema – Robert De Niro and Marlon Brando in the film “The Score”. The year 2002 brought him performances in films such as “Frida” (along with his then fiancée, Salma Hayek), Spike Lee’s “The 25th hour” and “Red Dragon” (the famous prequel to “Silence of the Lambs” and “Hannibal”).

In 2003, he starred alongside Charlize Theron in the movie “The Italian Job”. After a two-year break he played in the Ridley Scott’s epic “Kingdom of Heaven” (2005), and in 2006 starred in the title role in the film “The Illusionist” (alongside Jessica Biel). 

In 2006 he took part in 10-part mini-series for National Geographic and starred the film “Pride and Glory” where he played with Colin Farrell.

Plane struck by lightning, four people wounded

Lightning, which struck the aircraft parked on the Mexico City airport, wounded four men operating the machine. All four were taken to a nearby hospital.

Most passenger planes are built primarily of aluminum – this metal very well dissipates lightning energy. While the composite materials used for the construction of newer types of aircraft, no longer have such properties, which increases the risk of damage.

By 2030 the greenhouse gas emissions in India will triple

The Indian government revealed the report predicting that greenhouse gas emissions in India will increase three times within the next 20 years, from about 1.2 billion tons today to about 4-7 billion tonnes in 2030.

Document prepared by government experts also shows that greenhouse gas emissions per capita will be still much lower in India than in other developed countries.

Arctic Sea was carrying S-300 missiles for Iran

Arctic Sea freighter that vanished under mysterious circumstances at the end of July, was carrying S-300 air-to-ground missiles that were destined for Iran – reports the Austrian newspaper Salzburger Nachrichten.

Arctic Sea Freighter disappeared under mysterious circumstances at the end of July. Officially the Finnish cargo ship was carrying timber. The missiles were loaded on the ship, when at the beginning of summer Arctic Sea was repaired in the port of Kaliningrad.

According to the Salzburger Nachrichten newspaper, Iran came into contact with Russian mafia to organize a supply of most modern rockets on the art market.

Arctic Sea was planned to reach Algerian port of Bejais on August 4. It never got there. The last contact with the crew was established on July 28, when the ship was in the Dover Strait, leading from the North Sea to the open waters of the Atlantic.

Registered in Malta, Arctic Sea with 15 people of Russian crew on board was discovered by a Russian frigate Ładnyj on Monday near the Cape Verde Islands.

Fires in California: it was arson fire

Authorities of California have informed that the largest fire that ever broke out in the Los Angeles area, is the result of arson.

The investigation found that the cause of the fire is a criminal – said Rita Wears, representative of the U.S. Forest Service. It is reported that the investigation was initiated after the death of firefighters who died when their car fell into the gorge during action.
